The Minister of Justice officially opens the conference of the Association of Law Reform Agencies of Eastern and Southern Africa (ALRAESA)

The conference of the Association of Law Reform Agencies of Eastern and Southern Africa (ALRAESA) has commenced today.
The conference has been officially opened by the Honourable Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Mr. Charles Mhango.
Speaking during the official opening of the conference, Honourable Mhango underscored the significance of the conference which is looking into the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the law reform process. He, however, encouraged the consideration and acceptance of Artificial Intelligence in the judicial system as it may enhance the delivery of service.
The chairperson of ALRAESA who the Law Commissioner at the Law Commission is also emphasized the need for using the right applications for AI and at the same time placing emphasis on not in letting AI make a decision but rather being used as a reference point.
The two-day conference is being held at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) under the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Law Reform in Africa; Re-Imagining the role of law reform agencies in the digital era”. ALRAESA Conference has attracted delegates from Zambia, Namibia, Rwanda, Lesotho, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Eswatini, Mauritius, Zimbabwe and Zanzibar
