Special Law Commission on the development of legislation on Counterterrorism on a Learning Visit in Kenya

In its efforts to develop legislation that aligns with international best practices and standards, the special Law Commission on the Development of Legislation on Counter Terrorism undertook a benchmarking exercise in the Republic of Kenya. The objective was to draw lessons and insights from Kenya’s experience in preventing and countering terrorism.
The Commission was hosted by the National Counter Terrorism Centre, where it engaged with various government agencies, security institutions, and civil society organizations.
Additionally, the Commission held interactions with judicial officers at the Kahawa Law Court, which has jurisdiction over terrorism-related cases.
The study visit provided the Commission with a comprehensive understanding of Kenya’s multi-sectoral approach to counter terrorism and offered valuable insights into effective legislative and institutional frameworks for addressing terrorism which will inform the law development process.
The activity was funded by the Malawi Government through the Ministry of Homeland Security and the EU-UN Global Terrorism Threats Facility.
