Regional Consultative Workshop on Counter Terrorism

The special Law Commission on the development of Legislation on Counter Terrorism recently held regional consultative workshops in Lilongwe, Mzuzu and Blantyre. The consultative workshops were held from 12th to 14th March, 2025 to solicit views and insights from key stakeholders that are crucial to the development of a comprehensive legal framework on counter terrorism. The stakeholders were drawn from Civil Society Organizations, Faith Based Organizations, security agencies, and Government entities.
During the Workshops, participants provided feedback on issues that are being considered in the development of the legislation. Some of the issues focused on what constitutes a terrorist act; the sentencing considerations; cyber terrorism; national coordination and monitoring mechanisms; and international cooperation on counter terrorism matters.
The Commission is receiving technical and financial support from the Government of Malawi and the EU-UN Global Terrorism Threats Facility to carry out this noble task.
