On 4th May 2026, the Law Commission conducted a capacity building session for Community-Based Child Protection Structures on child protection laws at T/A Kampingo Sibande in Mzimba District.
The training aimed at enhancing community knowledge of child protection laws and their role in safeguarding the rights and welfare of children within their communities.
Participants were oriented on key legal frameworks governing child protection, with discussions focusing on child rights, forms of violence against a child, prevention of child abuse and reporting mechanisms.
This engagement forms part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to promote legal awareness and enhance community capacity in the protection of vulnerable groups, particularly children.
The session was held in collaboration with the NGO Coalition on Child Rights, the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, and the Malawi Police Service.
