The Law Commission today conducted a sensitisation meeting with members of staff from the Reserve Bank of Malawi – Mzuzu Branch. This is part of its ongoing efforts to fulfil its mandate of creating awareness on the Laws of Malawi and the Constitution.
During the session, the Commission shared knowledge on the Marriage, Divorce and Family Relations Act and the Deceased Estates Act. The discussions focused on key provisions of the two pieces of legislation and the redress mechanisms available to citizens.
Senior Deputy Director of Law Reform, Robert Kandulu, highlighted that the purpose of the engagement was to empower officers from the Bank with adequate knowledge of the law so that they are able to make informed decisions on matters relating to marriage and deceased estates. He further emphasized the importance of understanding rights and the procedures for seeking redress in cases where those rights are violated.
The Acting Director for the Reserve Bank of Malawi – Mzuzu Branch, James Thindwa, expressed appreciation for the initiative. He noted that the initiative provides an important opportunity for members of staff to interact with the custodians of the law and gain clarity on legal processes and remedies.
The meeting forms part of a broader series of civic education activities by the Law Commission targeting various institutions across the country.
